Wrapping Patches - Tip from Paul Matthews

If your groove diameter is 002 or less, wrap your patches in the opposite direction of the barrel twist.  If you don't the patch will not be sliced by the rifling and will negatively affect accuracy.

If your groove diameter is 003 or greater, wrap your patches in the same direction of the barrel twist

And yet another tome says to wrap the bullet in the same direction as the twist of the barrel.  Right hand twist, nose of bullet facing left if you roll away from you.

I believe that you might wrap some to the right, some to the left, and see which shoots best

so I went out with ten patched to the right, and 10 to the left.  The difference was about 1/8th of an inch.

In my haste to patch some bullets one time, I wrapped some to "tighten" when they left the barrel.  Rather than start over again, I decided to do a test.  It might have been a function of my particular barrel or size/type of paper, a fluke or just a l iimited test but after the shooting was done, I couldn't tell the difference.  I'd be interested if others have also tested the direction of wrap.
