Magnum Primers
« on: December 26, 2007, 11:47:06 AM »
My son bought me a few boxes of magnum small pistol primers. I would use them in 38 spl and 9mm. I usually use "std" primers.

Is there anything special I need to do with them like adjust the load? I usually load 2.7 bullseye in 38 and 4.2 in 9mm.

TIA
Jim

I would start at the lowest published load and work back up.

I would not use them in either caliber, way too much for those cases, heck even in the .357 Mag they are marginal. If you must use them then you MUST begin at the lowest published load and work back up, simply changing from std. to mag. primers can and will result in a very dangerous over pressure load.

My Speer Manual lists all of the specific components for each load.  For both of these calibers they list BOTH reg and mag CCI primers.  Regardless of this published data, I just wanted to be sure.
