compressed loads
« on: December 21, 2007, 05:45:15 PM »
Im loading 204 and max loads are listed as compressed. Is there anything special that needs to be done in this case? Also just started using a chrony, how low should I try to get the velocity spread?

There is nothing special you need to do when loading compressed loads. You may need to use a drop tube or tap the case to get the powder to fit - seating the bullet will then actually compress the powder. It is possible that compressed loads stored for long periods of time, or in varying temperatures, may actually move the bullet. Generally, the most accurate loads are those that fill the case near 100% capacity. There is no real correlation between velocity spread and accuracy. Obviously, you don't want huge variations, but the most consistent velocity load may not give you your best groups.

The load you want to shoot is the load that is the most accurate no matter what the SD is. The high SD load really won`t your accuracy until you are out to 500 yrds or farther then you will start to notice vertical stringing. Don`t worry abt. shooting compressed loads, they shoot just like all the rest.
