Slugs from a barrel with choke???
« on: November 17, 2012, 07:17:20 PM »
Is it possible to shoot slugs from a barrel with choke in it?  If so what is the most?  On a screw in choke would it be better to shoot slugs with no tube in?  Seems like that would do damage too?

Have you looked for a rifled choke? Brother in law in Illinois has used one for a bunch of years and likes it.

NO do not shoot slugs or shot without a choke screwed in. Screw in an improved cyl. and give it a try.  Killed a deer or 2 with my old Ithaca 37 with a fixed modified choke. You can shoot slugs through a full choke gun and it won't hurt a thing.

Never shoot without a tube in. Rifled tubes are the best option, but oddly enough I've found modified chokes to be the next best option.

Standard rifled slugs are designed to go through any standard choke down to full choke.  No extra full or turkey chokes though.

In the 90s I killed two deer in Ill with a modified 20ga NEF.  4in groups at 50 yds and I was happy.

Shot over 20 deer with Ithaca model 37, 20 gauge with 28" modified barrel using Rem sluggers.  Also many with Remington 870, 12 gauge with rifled choke tube until bought a rifled barrel that improved an already accurate shotgun,  Slugs are deadly and with the sabots available for rifled tubes and barrels, long shots up to 150 yards are not unusual.
