Ha!!! Great story. I'm gonna add to your's my own. Here it is:
Your not gonna believe this story. But I at least had enough sense to take a few pics with my cell phone to back up this non-sense. I can't believe what the "Turkey Gods" did to me today. I'm still shaking my head.
I was tired but I figured I'd sneak down over the hill and do some callin locally. It's a small area, but there is a pretty good size flock of birds there. So, I called there for about an hour and got 2 hens to come in. No boyfriends.
Well, I got back in my truck and was going home. I was going the back way....down this gravel road when I was passing the first house on my right......there in the front yard stood 4 (Yes FOUR) longbeards. So, I naturally just hit the brakes too stop and look.....as this was in the guys front yard and I don't know these people.
Well, as soon as I stopped and began to roll down my truck windows, all four birds began to run around the back of my truck. Two of 'em just ran into the grass off of the drivers side.....but the other two came right up to my drivers window! (GOT THAT!! RIGHT UP TO MY DRIVERS WINDOW. THE ONE STUCK HIS NOSE ON MY WINDOW RUBBER!!!) They were both looking right at me. I said something like "Hey boys....whats going on here?" and neither one backed away. I was astonished!! Here I am trying my best to eat one of these guys, and they are doing their best to climb into my truck.
So....I thought.....I'll see what they do if I give a few clucks on my suction call.....then I thought....no one (YEAH....NO ONE) is going to believe this story. I mean...would I believe it if say......huntin buddy "X" would tell me this happen to him? I'd be askin what brand of wine he was brewin and how much had he tasted that morning. Wouldn't you? So, I grabbed my cell phone and clicked the three pics below.
When I hit the high note on the caller all four of those gobblers went off!!! Man.....that valley was just hummin with gobblin!!! So.....the 2 at the truck then got bored and decided to move on (see the last pick...you can see all 4 and the side of my truck). So, I called a buddy on my cell to "share" this turkey incident with him. I attempted to get the gobblers to sound off again.....but no such luck. That was it....they would do no more.
THEN...this young girl who lived in the house (well...young to me...I'd say in her mid 20's) came down to get the mail. I told her I had been hunting these turkey birds for 4 days now. And......she said "Well.....why didn't you just shoot one of those?" (Why don't I just stab my eye with a fork?) I said really? She said "Yup" or something of the sort. Well....by then the gobblers were 50 to 75 yards up the hill. And since I'm disabled (and have a shoot from the vehicle permit) I don't do hills very well. Darn, darn, darn, darn. So...there I was. I now had permission, pulled off the road, had the gun in the back, license, permit on the visor.
I was lookin at the son-of-a-gun eyeball to eyeball. I still can't believe it. Here are the pics:
