To fit or not to fit? Barrel fitting question
« on: December 31, 2007, 07:28:38 AM »
I just got a 30-06 barrel.  Here is my question.  It locks up perfectly on one of my receivers.  The receiver it fits is a pre 99 SB2 NH prefix.  I got the receiver new with a 223 barrel. Later had a 45/70 fitted by H&R on it.  I know they won't put a 30-06 on it, but is it safe for me to?   Is there a physical strength difference between these and the post 99 models?   Should I use it on this receiver, or would it be better to refit it to one of my later ones?  I have fit barrels before, and have no problem doing so if it is necessary.  What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Kevin

Pre '99 frames don't have the same heat treatment as later frames, they're weaker, that's why they won't fit any of the high pressure * marked barrels to them.

That's kind of what I thought.  I'll just have to fit it to one of my later frames.    Thanks Tim..
