Does anyone know the real reason reloading component prices have blew thru the roof ?

To answer honestly,  is is because we are now a global economy.
Explosive growth in China and India and other rapidly developing second and third tier economies have driven the cost of commodities and oil through the roof.
Add to that the increased demand for ammunition and ordinance for the war on terror in the Mideast and you have a perfect formula for higher prices.
Short of a worldwide economic slowdown or collapse, I don't think you should expect to see a drop in prices anytime soon.

I agree with Gary
I was just reading some where, where the war on terror is having a big impact on the prices of reloading supplies.
 Brass scrap metal, and copper are very high on the scrap market at present also. Just about all of the scrap goes to China or India, and comes back here as consumer stuff (junk).

Reloading supplies have gone up, but it's still less expensive than shooting factory ammo.  It used to be cheaper to reload, now it's just less expensive.  Doesn't seem that long ago that factory ammo for rifle was around .50 per round, now it's closer to a dollar every time you pull the trigger.  Save your brass!

I just got thru stocking up on Brass, Bullets and Powder.
The stuff ain't gonna get any cheaper and it won't cost me anything sitting in the basement.

Like you I did the same only about 3 to 4 years back at one of the first price increase and only hope my supply last but my thinking is even when demand goes back to normal the price will stay inflated only time will tell, stock up now the stuff wont go bad nor does it eat

I don't expect prices to ever get less expensive than what they are right now.  It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

I just picked up 2 boxes of primers (1000 ea) win.lg pistol and win lg rifle price $22.95 ea. 3 mo's ago they were $17.95 ea, dont think things are gonna get any better. Got a good stock of boolits, plus cast boolits and a fair amt. of GC's still have a good amt. of powder stashed here and there. Plus a fair amt. of lead.

same reason our dollar isnt worth much more then the canadian dollar any more. THE ECONOMY

Look at the price of oil ! Sooner or later everything has to try to catch up because everybody has to recoup their transportation costs. It shouldn't be surprise to anyone that prices for everything will increase when transportation costs go up.
