This question gets asked offen here and that's great. I personally have taken several coyotes with the 22mag and although it is not my first choice for yotes it will work in a pinch. My favorite 22mag round for larger game is the 50gr HP by Federal. It shoots alittle flatter than a brick but it pack a wallop at the other end. My longest yote kill with a 22mag is 125 yards using the Federal 50gr HP. I hit this smallish female in the neck just at the the point where the neck meets the chest. The slug took out the lungs and heart the dog never new what hit it, dropped on the spot. I know that you are going to get all kinds of post saying that these coyotes and tuff animals and they are. That you should uses nothing less than a 222 or 223. Well I personally think that if you are targetting coyotes nothing less than a 22-250 is in order. But on the other hand if a 22mag is all that you have then use it. Just know what your and the rounds limmitations are and don't exceed them. If you think you can hit it at 100 yards, limit your shots to 80yards. Always play it safe remember that pain is still pain, even if it is a miserable mutton eating, mellon stealing coyote. You owe that much to the animal, if you cannot do it with one shot, then don't shoot.
So as to your question go heavy for Coyotes in the 22mag.
