I have not used pellets and I don't know much about them. I want to rid myself of this ignorance. :oops: Who has some info?

Lets start by asking you what BP make/model rifle you are shooting because not all rifles qualify for certain brands of pellets.

I know I can use 3 50 gr. pellets (wow that's a lot!), but I don't know much about them...

I like the Pyrodex Pellets, have not tried the Triple 7 pellets yet. I get better groups out of my Encore 50 cal with the pellets than with loose powder.

I shoot an Encore SS / walnut .50 as well. I like pellets, particularly a pair of Triple 7 pellets.

There is no reason to bother with 150 grain pellet loads. The Encore cannot possibly combust all of that 3rd pellet. The most it can burn is 120-125 grains, and in my gun with 295 / 348 gr. Powerbelts - - - accuracy drops of after 110 grains FFg Pyrodex.

For the book, Thompson does not allow more than 100 grains of Triple 7, nor does Hodgdon.

I too bought the triple-7 pellets, but 2 pellets didn't group very well. 3 were just too harsh. I wen't back to loose powder so I could find a good load for my rifle. Thats the problem with the pellets; if 2 or 3 don't group well in your gun, your stuck! I e-mailed hodgson about mixing pellets and loose powder, and they said no way!
