scope mounts

I will be putting a leupold FXII 4x28 Leupold on a ruger super redhawk in 454Casull , can i use the rings ruger supplies or should i go with a different mounting system?

If you can get them tight enough they'll work. I had to take some shots with my .480 and then re-tighten everything. Twice!

Burris makes a Ruger  to Weaver adapter so you can use their rings.

I`ve had no trouble with the Ruger rings on my .454. I have heard of guys putting some double sided tape in the rings to help with slippage, but I didn`t have to.

Catfish, how do you get the scope cross hairs plumb with the double faced tape in there?

I have never had to use tape myself, but know people that have. I guess you would have to be real careful how you set the scope in the rings.

My Ruger rings broke after  very short time. Ruger did replace them without a problem. I found a combat scope mount w/rings on-line and it worked out great.

I've never had a problem with any of my Ruger scope rings.

No, no. I use reg single sided scotch/cello tape w/smooth ~ non-sticky side to scope. Plumb it like you normally wud.

I've used regular pressure sensitive mailing labels in the bottom ring half after lapping, it's no different than the "friction paper" that Burris included with their rings.

Why did you lap them, if you needed a shim?

Lapping insures both rings are aligned so the rings don't damage the scope tube, the paper isn't a shim, it helps prevent the scope from slipping in the rings.
