Garand assembly ??

I have assembled my garand without getting the operating rod and bolt properly together , as a result the rifle is now together without the bolt even in it , I cant get it in there correctly with out taking it apart but I cant pull the trigger assembly out .
What do I need to do to trick it into thinking the bolt is closed so I can get the trigger assembly out so I can get it back out of the stock ?

It has been years since I assembled/disassembled the Garand but I believe the hammer has to be released to remove the trigger assembly.  Since the bolt is out of the rifle, make certain the hammer is released, turn the rifle over (trigger guard facing up) and unlatch the trigger guard by pulling backwards and up.  You may also need to find a way to depress the follower.  HTH.  Mikey.

I have a similar question. 
I lost the entire trigger assembly to my m-1 garand, then bought a new trigger assembly at a gun show.  Mine is a springfield, but the trigger assembly I purchased was apparently made by beretta.  The fellow I bought it from told me they were interchangeable.  Well, they are not!!!
If I just purchased a new housing, and then reassembled the whole housing, would this then fit my M-1?

It surprises me to hear that the Beretta made M1 trigger housing assembly does not fit your Springfield M1 Garand.

Beretta manufactured the M1 on Springfield Armory supplied fixtures and machinery.  As far as I know, their parts were completely interchangeable with US GI parts until Beretta modified the design to the BM59 series.  Even with the design change, the BM59 was largely based on the M1 and existing parts stocks.

How does it not fit?  Does it fail to lock in the latched position?  Where is the interference?

They do not even fit together.  The "ears" that stick out of the assembly do not fit into the recessed area in the magazine as I recall.  They are too large.

I have several Garands including two complete Italian Garands. All the parts are interchangeable.  I am not sure which question to answer first. 

As far as putting the op rod back on the bolt, you will need to remove the trigger assembly and then remove the rest of the internals from the Garand.  Okay, you really don't have to take them out, but it makes it loads easier.  Try the assembly instructions and video here:  http://www.surplusrifle.com/garand/index.asp

As far as the "ears" being misshapen  on your PB trigger group, I can't imagine it is so. The PB stuff was built on Winchester machinery by a company that has been building firearms for over 400 years. Can you post a picture?

Thanks for the post, you sound like you know a lot about this.  Maybe I am not putting it back together correctly.  I'll be the first to admit I am not an expert, although at one time I could take one apart and put it back together.  It's been about 15 years though, since I was really into this.
