45-70 Guide Gun Sight Issue
« on: December 31, 2007, 11:22:33 AM »
Purchased the XS Sight Systems Ghost ring setup and was very pleased...unit...I tried to adjust the windage.  Got a good group at 65 yards off to the right.  Went to move the rear sight left...further left...further left...uh oh!  Right hand set screw left threaded portion of sight base and was a total bear to remove cuz I could not get it to restart in the tapped portion to back it out.  Sight has to go all the way left to get the windage correct.

Two problems...

Need longer setscrew on right hand side to get it sighted in properly...and...I think the sight looks totally ridiculous with the rear sight offset that far to one side of the base.  Its looks awful and is very disconcerting to me.

I think the only reasonable way to fix this to my satisfaction is to get some windage adjustment in the front sight...which is not possible with this sight set.

Suggestions?  Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks.

Barry
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

I had similar problems.   My fixes to all the problems I had was to return it.  Most everyone thinks these are great sights, I was not impressed for what they costs.

If i had to make a guess id say that your front sight was put on off to the side a touch.  Ive bought a few marlins that had that problem. You either live with it, sell it or scope it.
