.357 SIG headspacing?

Does anyone know whether the .357 SIG cartridge is supposed to head-space on the shoulder or the case neck? It seems natural that it would be on the shoulder but I have this strange thought that I read when the cartridge was introduced that it was otherwise.

I read an article about the 357Sig and the author said it headspaces on the case mouth.

Everything I've read stated it head spaces on the case mouth, not the shoulder. I use a Redding taper crimp die on mine and it's worked fine, no problems with bullet slip at all.

Like most bottlenecked pistol cartridges it will HS on either really. I would think your only concern would be with either very old brass used too many times or a severely pushed back shoulder and a crimp to hard that it sizes the bullet down and cannot contact the HS point at the barrel.

This has been kicked around all over the place in half a dozen different venues. A little common sense reflection should reveal that any given cartridge will headspace on whichever surface (shoulder or mouth) that makes contact first when the round is chambered.

I shoot mostly cast in mine (P229 Sig & LBT mold) and I drop each loaded round into the barrel of a field stripped gun to see if the thing will go all the way in and be flush with the base of the barrel. If it goes I shoot it and don't worry about headspace.
