Gps "Lock".
« on: January 09, 2008, 11:17:21 AM »
I love my ETREX camo. It does exactly what I want for hunting. The only thing that would entice a new GPS would be a locking feature. Does Garmin offer a GPS that has a security lock? That would do it.........

I believe that some of the Garmin Automotive gps units have a lock and you used a 4-digit PIN code. If you forget it you have to send it back to the factory to get it unlocked.  Of course the unit has to be registered in your name.

I am not aware of a security lock feature on Garmin handhelds but I have not had the opportunity to review the manuals for the new Garmin Colorado Series.
There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!

Looks like all the Nuvi series and all but the bottom of the line Streetpilot series have the security lock.

To set it, enter your PIN for the security lock.  Setting your security location lets say your using your home as your security location, set it after you establish your PIN.

Everytime you start up your GPS you have to enter your pin, unless you are at your security location. Should you forget your PIN drive back to your selected security location and the GPS will automatically unlock. If you forget your PIN and your security location then you havre to send the unit back to Garmin.

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/Nuvi350_OwnersManual.pdf   Go to page 6 of the manual and it explains it a lot better than I just did. :)
