Is it safe to shoot 22LR in a 22WMR revolver?  Just for plinkin' at cans and targets ;D

It's definitely not recommended but I have done it, cases often split but with the gun far from the face it is generally not dangerous. The accuracy is so poor it is hardly worth firing. That is why some revolvers are supplied with interchangeable cylinders for LR or WMR, because one cylinder is not good for both.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
