Hello Browning shooters,
I have just started a thread under the gunsmithing section about the barrel on my Stainless A-Bolt in 300win mag.
The thread is under the sub heading of gunsmithing in the north west.
Anyway, the barrell of my rifle looks like it was bored with a threading tap, meaning it is VERY ROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought the rifle used, or it should have gone back for a replacement barrel.
I have fire lapped the barrel about 20 rounds which helped a bit - you can still see the "tap" marks.
However, it has just never shot as consistently as I desire and have thought about having a top quality barrel install by a local gunsmith.
I talked to him and decided to fire lap another 20 - 40 rounds to see if possibly the barrel will smooth out and settle down enough to satisfy me.
I like the smooth action and the rifle carries OK considering a 26" tube, but I have a hard time living with a rifle which will not group consistantly and group at what I consider a reasonable group size.
Comments or thoughts are welcome.
Keep em coming!
