Steel washers between barrel and forearm

Hey guys anyone try putting steel washers between barrel and forearm to to make the barrel semi freefloating? If so how was the accuracy compared to beforeusing the washers.                Thanx John

I've tried it on my .204, still won't shoot better than .375 MOA.

I had problems with the accuracy changing on my .223 rem..... I wasnt getting the screw's tightened the same when I would change the barrel...I got the cam lock and some extra studs  for new barrel's...........Some people say they never had a problem........I suppose you could use one of those torque wrenches and tighten them all the same every time......Without the new studs and cam lock mine moved 9"@200yds  the first time I changed them out.......But this system doesnt put any torque on the barrel....Drop

Through Cabelas..........I called T/C and they said they didnt use them and didnt see a need for them....I must ask then why did they design and manufacture them?...You will need the camlock fore end and a couple extra sets of the barrel studs...... Solved my problem.........I have shot inch and a quarter groups @200 yds with my .223 rem.....But mostly they stay about an inch and a half...and thats with black hills 52gr hollow points.american eagle 50gr flat tail jacketed hollowpts.and about the same with Blagk hills 60gr vmax.........I am off to cabelas this weekend...I probably need to pick up another set of standoff studs......I dont know which barrel I will puschase next....But it does make it better tradeing material.....Drop

I use the hard plastic washer's you can buy at the hardware store.  The problem was you needed a longer screw.  I could not find the screws anywhere.  Therefore I decided to sell the screws on E-Bay.  Look under HEAD6336 for the proper screw.  Try the hard plastic washer's.  They conform easier, and do not scratch the barrel.  It was an easy and inexpensive fix that works.  Tom.

On my Contender barrels that are not set up with a hanger bar I use a tight fitting rubber o ring then a washer. O ring gives it a little cushion and also captures the screw when the foreend is removed.

I use a couple of small piece of rubber inner tube repair patch fore and aft of the screw holes, and the standard screws fit fine.

When I put the forend on with the patches in place, I noticed that it didn't sit "square" on the bbl (couldn't slide a dollar bill all the way through). A little bit of sandpaper fixed that.

I never bothered measuring, but groups from my 7mm WM tightened up quite a bit.

I used some flat washers,that are .014 thick. I used 3 on each screw. My barrel isn't floated,but shoots real consistent. I just wanted to relieve the pressure on the barrel,and it seems to work.Ron

Yes I put 1 washer on each screw to eliminate vertical stringing. The rifle is doing fine.

On some of mine I have used them and on others I have just floated the forearm. Its easy to float them because a sharp pocket knife will get it done every time. Just try them and if it doesn't work try something else. That's the best I can tell ya.
