This has been a real interesting post to follow, and I bought my first 41Mag, a 6.5inch Ruger New Model Blackhawk in 1980. I've had other revolvers and pistols, but I've never been without a 41Mag since then. The list includes (all 41RemMag) a couple Old Model Three-Screw Backhawks (both 4 5/8ths" and 6 1/2" barrels), a TC 14"Bull Barrel, several New Model Blackhawks (both 4 5/8ths" and 6 1/2" barrels), a Marlin 1894cs, and my present favorite, a 5 1/2" Stainless Steel New Model Bisley Blackhawk. My records show having shot from 170gr-220gr jacketed bullets from the major companies and cast bullets from 205gr-293gr, both commercial and my own castings. When I was shooting IHMSA back in the late '80's and early '90's, the Lyman 410459 ruled with 20gr of 2400. I also used 16gr of IMR4227, but it did not hold up as well at longer distances (turkeys and rams). Took a buck Antelope at 95 yards with one RCBS 210gr cast bullet pushed by 21gr of IMR4227. My Lyman 41028 likes 18gr of 2400 and 8gr of Unique. My favorite bullet was an SSK275gr mold produced by NEI. My mix came in at 293gr and I pushed it with 16gr of W296. Having 'discovered' LBT and read Veral Smith's book around 1998, I've used a bunch of Cast Performance Bullets on paper, as time permited, and am still playing with them. The 265grWLNGC even works well in my very worn '86 40-82WCF. Like the guys have said, it's tried and true, and works great with cast bullets!
