Need Big Bore load for 32 H&R Mag
« on: April 10, 2003, 08:59:03 AM »
I have a 10'' t/c and want to shoot it in big bore standing with 150gr. or heavier bullets. Anyone have a good load for this? Thanks, Wayne

I like to shoot the RCBS 175 sil. over WC820, lit by a mag pistol primer. If you don't have 820 you could use AA#9, it's very similar. Don't remember the load but it's running about 1300 fps out of my 10" barrel. Be careful working up loads, you can run into pressure problems easily. Not dangerous, but the brass gets mighty sticky. I load it so I get easy extraction in the summer. Haven't lost any rams yet with this setup.

I shoot a 32mag.   Working up loads for this  round in a thompson is very different from the revolver.  I will assume that you know that the thompson is a .308 not .310-.314 bore.   I have fooled around with this for a while now.  The 32-20  is a close cuz.  Some of your big grain loads (heads)  can come from those tables.  Start off down loading and come slowly back up.  Watch for all! pressure signs.   The biggest head I have used so far was a 123gr.  hornaday designed for a 7.62x39  a .310 ball loaded with 5gr of long shot.   The load I use currently is a 110gr .308 V-Max pushed by 9.5gr  H4227.    Man I love that bullet!!!    Try shooters talk.com   or  http://stevespages.com/308p_10_135.html   Hint!  START AT LOWEST AND WORK UP!  Good luck  REDFRED

try 10 grains of 1680, wsr primer, and 165-170  bullet.  slow, but may work.
I use 10.5 grain 1680 with RCBS 165 sil cast bullets.  Takes the rams no problem........ except in albany.

Thanks Steve, This is what I am needing. Something using 150 grain or better bullets. I will try this and let you know how it works. I have a 9'' BF falling block and a 10'' contender barrel. Thanks again, Wayne Fish
