Pachymar Encore grip question?
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:21:42 AM »
Is there a way to "laydown" or remove the swivel stud on the grip?  I just received mine and just looked at it real quick, but it seems rather fixed.  I want the swivel stud on there but for some reason, I thought it layed down for when shooting from bags.  I don't have my frame back from a trigger job so I just set it aside for now.

I've been shooting mine for about two months, but haven't tried to remove the stud from the grip.  I'm like you...it looks "kinda fixed".  It might screw out...I don't know.  FWIW When I shoot off bags the heel of my grip doesn't touch anything so I don't worry about the stud.  I rest the pistol on one bag just in front of the trigger guard and my wrists on another bag just behind the grip.  Over the years this has worked much better for me than resting the butt of the gun against or on anything.  Good shootin', Walt   ;)
PS  I LOVE the new grip!!!  Not as hot on the forend.

How is the trigger reach on the Pachmayr grip, compared to the stock Encore ( rubber, preferably ) grip?
Also, I understand that the current production Pachmayr forends are of two types: One for " standard " calibers, up through about 30-06, and the other intended for heavier " magnum" calibers. I'm interested in using the Pachmayr set-up on an Encore that has 2 barrels, a .308 and a.375 JDJ. I assume the " magnum " forend will work on both barrels, since I'm not aware of any spacing or contour differences. Can anyone confirm that this " magnum " forend does indeed work on " standard " /.308 barrels ?
Finally, is this Pachmayr Encore set smooth or checkered like the Contender set ? Thanks for your help.

I think the only difference between the magnum and standard is the weight.  They needed to make the magnum lighter to keep from bending screws.  I would wait on the magnum forend.  I got tired of waiting so I just ordered the grip.

Ken, Yes both forends are the same except for weight according to the literature I got with mine.  I got the standard w/ mine, which is supposed to be used up thru .308.  The forend screws directly to the barrel ala TC forends...no adapter bar.  My standard forend is considerably lighter than the Contender forend w/ adapter.  I really haven't noticed any difference in trigger reach.  I do like the grip...it is more hand filling(thicker) than the Contender grip.  GOOD SHOOTIN',   :) Walt

Thanks, Walt. Is it "checkered" or smooth?

If I am correct its smooth. You might want to check with one of the guys who has them.
