Contender Barrel Compatibility?
« on: January 04, 2008, 01:46:02 AM »
I'm wanting a Contender Pistol and need some education on barrel compatibility.   Will Contender G2 barrels fit on Contender (g1?) frames?  Are there any issues with stainless, blued, plated?  Will Contender barrels (g1?) fit on G2 frames?  Other issues and concerns?
Thanks in advance,
Roger D.

Welcome top the wonderful world of Contenders.  While individual differences between barrels and frames may make some fitting of locking bolts necessary for proper function the system is designed so most barrels interchange between original and G2 Contenders.  Blued and stainless barrels are freely interchanged (I do it all the time).  For a short time Thompson Center sold plated barrels (Armor Alloy or AA) that had slightly different specs.  The hole for the hinge pin has to be enlarged for them to work on non AA frames.  This mod can be done with sandpaper at home or the parts can be sent to TC for modification.

The only G2 barrel that is designed to not fit traditional Contender frames are the muzzleloading barrels.  I haven't seen one but I understand they have an additional part that allows them to work with G2 frames but they don't fit original Contenders.

Good luck with your entry into this fun part of our sport!  Be careful: it can be addictive.  I started with one frame and one barrel and now I have a bunch of each.  Kinda like those potato chips.  One just isn't enough.

g1 and g2  barrels are compattiable to a certain point.some older g1 barrels have squared off locking lugs and they will lock up but not unlock on a new g2 frame.then you have to call t/c to get new ones. but its an easy fix. also im not 100% sure but armor alloy barrels will only work with armor alloy frames. unless they have been re drilled out to accept a blued or stainless hinge pin. blued barrels and stainless barrels will work either with a blued or a stainless frames and visaversa. just my 2 cents worth dave......
