Blackhawk Convertable in 9mm/357mag
« on: January 06, 2008, 07:30:38 AM »
For a number of years I've wanted a BH Convertable in 9mm/357mag, 4 3/4 inch.   With the upcoming election and price of reloading components going through the ceiling I'm close to putting my money where my mouth is.  Especially since my trip to WalMart last night.  A x100 white box of Wincherster 9mm was $15 and change, 38 Special $25, and Remingtion x100 green box 357mag $39.  9mm cheaper than I can reload, hummmmmmm...  I already have a 45ACP/45Colt 5 1/2 BH Convertable and love it in both calibers.   Anybody else out there have one of the new black grip BH 9mm/358mag convertable?  I've love to exchange notes.

Thanks,

I traded into a 4 5/8" Blackhawk convertable a few years ago. It is a very accurate shooter for me using 357 mag reloads with 140 and 158 grain bullets. The 9mm cylinder firing the Winchester white box you mentioned above did not do nearly as well for me.

Sounds good! Let me know how it shoots. For the sake of curiosity I will eventually try some 9mm reloads in the Blackhawk.

By chance I had some back issues, late 80s early 90s, of Shooting Times and G&A with articles on loading the 9mm with lead bullets and the 9mm in revolvers.  Turns out the 9mm is closer to 357 performance with the lighter bullets 115gr and 125gr than it is to even the 38 +P.  As for reloading lead bullets Herco seamed to do well.  I'm looking forward to experimenting with this gun.

Finally got my Blackhawk Convertible cleaned it up and off to the range.  Sighting it in to point of aim with Winchester USA 130gr 38 Special at 10 yards and it shoots into 1 inch.  With Winchester USA 115gr 9mm it shoot an inch lower and the group opens up to 1 1/2 inchs.  With 357 mag handloads using Speer 158gr JSP over 15.5gr of H110 and a CCI550 primer it shoots 1/2 inch lower than the 38 Specials.
