« on: September 22, 2007, 04:38:30 PM »
I got a box of 62 gr XBT's for my 223. I thought I could get loading data off the Internet. I can't find it. Does anyone have loading data for it?  Thanks Ron

Sorry, can't help you, Ron.  I have the same issue with the 53 gr. TSX's.  Wish somebody could help us both. :-\

Email Ty Herring at Barnes, if he has it, he'll send it to you, I've got several load sheets from him, both for their published data and data that's not published in their manuals..... yet! ;)

Why don't these guys just post their loading info on the net?  I can see charging for the books if you want the book, they're not cheap to print and to ship, but jeez, it doesn't cost much to put it on a website.

At least Barnes has some data on their website, many other bullet manufactures have none at all, Sierra and Hornady to name a couple. ::)

Yep, and I wasn't picking on Barnes. I use their bullets and think they're about the best for big game.

To answer your question, IMO money.... Same reason Hornady doesn't offer the Flex-tip bullets as a component, why should they when they can sell their ammo with em, and Federal doesn't offer Fusion bullets as a component...yet, except for some factory overuns Midway had... once.

Component suppliers offering data for free would be like going to your mechanic to get info on how to fix your car for free.  Or even better yet, how about your doctor?  You may just get what you pay for.  Buy the books!  It's cheaper in the long run.  Besides, there's more in the books than just data.

It's not totally unheard of for a component mfr to offer data, Nosler offers free data for their bullets in a lot of chamberings. ;)

And they charge more for their product up front to compensate and leave you without the info "in hand" so to speak unless you choose to print all the info yourself.  In such a case they still get paid and don't have deal with printers and suppliers.  I just don't believe in loading without hard copy in front of me.

For what it's worth, my Superlight NEF Handi-Rifle (20" .223) seems to like 25gr. of H4895 behind the Barnes 53gr. TSX.  That's a tiny bit under the max load verbally suggested to me by the Barnes people.  Love to try a broadside shot at a whitetail with this combo.

What are you looking for ? There is alot of data regarding loads for 62 grain 224 bullets out there. COL is going to be determined by your rifle or in the case of a semi your magazine. Powder charge will be similar to other weights for 223 rounds in 55 - 62 weight range. Other issues such a military brass and primers will be the same as any of your other reloads. Trim length the same as for all brass. Don't expect bullet mfg's to invest millions of dollars in research and then not sell their product in the form of a reloading manual. I feel $25 bucks for a book containing thousands of loads is more than fair. The cost to check a variety of loads for just one of your calibers would cost you hundreds.

I sent Barnes an email about the 50 VLC and they sent me a spread sheet with several different loads. They also said they use Benchmark to test all they bullets for accuracy. I used Benchmark with the 50 grn VLC and shot bug holes at 100 yds out of my 1-9 twist Savage.

I just used the XLC data listed in the manual for my 22-250 and it worked just fine.
