Range and field report: Tikka 223 and 243
« on: June 30, 2003, 04:29:34 PM »
I finally was able to get the rifles shot in yesterday, so here is the results.

223 Varmint 26" barrell 52gr Sierra HPBT Just under 3/4" for 5 shots at 100yds. 3 were almost touching and the other two just a little bit away from the three. I was running out of day light so I hurried a little bit and I did'nt get chrono results either. Rifle is topped with a 6x20x40 Bushnell Scopechief on Burris bases and Leupold rings.

243 whitetail topped off with a 4x15x40 Bushnell Trophy on Burris bases and Leupold rings. Shooting Sierra 60gr HP at 3500+ fps chrono'ed this rifle shot (2) 1/2" three shot groups at 100yds. And in both groups two were almost down the same hole! This rifle has a lot of potential.

Took the 223 out chuck hunting tonite. It claimed its first at around 325yds.
Can't wait to reload up some different recipes for both rifles to see their true potential.

Also sighted in a Ruger 77/22 Hornet. It did 11/4" at a 100 yds. The trigger is this rifles accuracy gremlin.

Well Urika, it sounds like you got yourself a couple of winners.  Then again, they are Tikkas - would you really expect anything less? :)
