Barrel for older Handi ?

I have a SB2 made in 1996 according to the list on the FAQ's. Mine is a 25-06. My question is, can a smaller cal. barrel (say .223) be used on this frame without any problems? If not, can someone tell me why?

Barrels on the barrel accessory list without * will work on your gun.

As PartsMan said, * marked accessory barrels can't be fitted to frames made before 1999 due to those frames being weaker than current production.

Hmmmm  if the rifle originally came with a .25-06 barrel (an * marked barrel) and it is not an add-on by someone?   ???

There are plenty of other calibers to play with.

H&R won't fit any high pressure * accessory barrel to any frame made before 1999, even if it came with one orginally. Unfortunate, confusing, whatever you want to call it, it's a fact. :'(
