slug gun - scope
« on: February 18, 2008, 06:23:44 AM »
how much eye relief do you guys prefer with a 12 gauge slug gun? I've been doing some research and have found scopes for shotguns usually have an eye relief of 3.7-5.5 inches. I know the more eye relief, the less chance of havin an eye/scope meeting, but is 3.7" succifient?

I went to a scope on my shotgun many years ago.  Can't recommend using a shotgun scope though.  Seems to me that with the 'shotgun' scopes you can pay more & get less.  I have had good luck with Leupold VX series scopes.  They do seem to have more eye relief than any other brand.  A VX-1 3-9 X 40 is really a lot of scope for the money.  You can save a few dollars and go with the 2-7 x 32, but a VX-1 or Rifleman 'Rifle' scope is what I'd recommend.

I use 3.25 inch eye relief on one of my scopes and have not had a problem with 3 inch Brenneke Black Magic slugs.
