frame measurement...
« on: January 09, 2008, 11:17:09 PM »
Would someone be kind enough to measure a G2 (preferably in cm) from the breach face rearward to a line extending vertically from the furthest point back on a standard walnut pistol grip?  I don't have my T'C's here in Germany and I'm trying to figure out how long of a barrel I would need to make the minimum length to hunt with it.  The law only says that it has to be a certain length, not that it can't be a pistol configuration.  Unfortunately I think I would need about a 20" barrel but I might be able to get around that with a custom grip.  Thanks...

I don't have a walnut grip, but I get about 10.8 cm's on my T/C rubber grip.

Roger,
Thanks for the help... looks like my 20" guess was right on the mark.  That'll be one funny looking "pistol" but I'm bound and determined to take some game here with a "pistol" even if it has a 20" barrel and shoots a rifle cartridge.  I'll bring my G2 back this summer when I go on leave.  I'll have to buy a new barrel of some kind since I don't have any rifle barrels right now.

The "Big shot Grip" might help you make it.  It was once made by Fajhen ( I don't think my spelling is right ) and now made again by GBO sponsor Gunstocks, Inc.  That grip has a pistol grip with a large loop behind it for the left hand to grip.  It was fairly common a number of years ago.  Your hands got into a little push/pull contest and it actually made for a pretty steady hold. The loop might add as much as 6" to the length of the grip.  The bad news is...I think it is just made for the old Contender and not the G-2.  Good Luck`  Walt

BTW...When I was stationed in Germany, Bill Ruger had just introduced the Super Blackhawk.  I immediately got one thru the post Rod & Gun Club.  The Germans wouldn't let me hunt with that either but they sure did get a hoot out o' shootin' it at their local range....whoa..talk about old memories...Thanks.

Thanks for the help guys!  I appreciate the help.  That grip looks intriguing.  I have to get my G2 added to my german permit so I can bring it back over here this summer.  Might have found a deal on an Encore here but have to wait to see if the other buyer backs out or not.  I really need an Encore like I need another hole in my head since I really need a couple of scopes for the rifles I already have here.  If I put this G2 package together, I'll definitely post it and the first deer/hog/fox I smoke with it.
