Outstanding accuracy in a Ruger GP 100!
« on: March 03, 2008, 11:17:17 AM »
While I don't have any pictures I was astounded again today at how well my 2003 vintage GP 100 shoots.  I got a one raged hole group at an indoor range (mediocre lighting) from a bench at 50' using wadcutters.  It is the rarer blued steel model with the 6" barrel.  This gun has always been very accurate.

I am wondering if the other models shoot well too, like the the Super Red Hawk, the black Hawk, etc.  I was considering another Smith and Wesson as the 2 that I have owned shoot really well, but if the Rugers shoot just as good, why not stick with Ruger?

How are the .44 mag. Super Red Hawks in the accuracy department, granted that the .38 special is known for accuracy?

Thanks.

i long ago read some fantastic claims for gp-100 accuracy.   later i learned from experience that the gun rag author was right!   the gp-100 could only be improved by chambering it for a little larger caliber, in my opinion.

the super redhawks in .44 mag' supposedly are very accurate.   i don't own one, however, using a standard redhawk in stainless steel instead.   the redhawk is the revolver i'd recommend.   it's a stout-hearted piece that will even handle randy garrett's 330 gr' loads!   it is better-balanced than the 'super' in my opinion; and it is less expensive.   with a hogue monogrip the recoil is greatly tamed.    the redhawk is a hell-raiser!

www.garrettcartridges.com is the link.   look at the 'reviews' for the .44 mag's he loads.   you can decide for yourself from what they say.   you can also check with hamilton bowen's website and/or phone number.   click on ''catalog'' on bowen's site and see what he says about the redhawk in the double-action section.

i'd recommend you buy loads/components from one of our sponsors.  those will be good enough for whatever comes along, in my opinion.

the smith' in 629 Classic is a great piece, from what i've read, and the little i've done with a model 29 classic (blued).    but it won't handle what a ruger will handle for the same number of rounds, etc.etc.
