what is it worth?
« on: February 04, 2008, 05:48:07 AM »
I have a Marlin 336 30-30, no letters in the model #, gold trigger, with serial # showing it to be a 1969 model. What would be the value of it?

I would guess if the rifle is in excellent condition, it would sell for some where around 300.00 to 400.00.  If it has checkering on the butt and forend, it may be worth more. Is it walnut or hardwood? What kind of condition is the bluing in and how about the inside of the barrel?

Walnut stock, no checkering, the blueing is fair-- this gun has been well used, the bore has been kept clean no pitting. It will shoot less than 3/4" groups at 100 with Walmarts winchester 170 gr ammo. This was my dad's rifle and to me its worth is immeasurable, but I was just curious as to what I had here.

Yep Jon, I agree. Some of these old levers are worth more to the owner than to someone else. I have a couple that my dad owned and as far as market value, it's not worth selling. I've got one my dad bought used in 1930 and I still hunt with it. I'm 61 years old and will probably use it till my last day on earth.
