I've owned a P-89 for a good many years. Did some shooting and reloading for it as well. It seems like a decent pistol... and is relatively accurate at 25 yards, but it's not target pistol.
I never had any kind of problems with it... nor any "jams" with either factory loads or my handloads.
The only complain (if you can call it that) I might have about it is it's size and weight... it's a BIG gun! But... because it is BIG and relatively heavy, it tends to come back "down" onto the target again very quickly compared to lighter 9x19's.
I consider that a
BIG "plus" since you might want to add a 2nd or even a 3rd round to the first round "hit" you got.
With the two 15-round magazines that come with it plus the after-market 18 round magazine I keep "loaded" and in it... there's a LOT of "fire-power" available if you want/need it. If I HAD to go into a "bad area" of the city (which I wouldn't unless forced to do so), it would be "comforting" to know I had 48 rounds with me (two 15-shot mags + the 18 shot mag) in case I somehow got involved in a "shoot-out" with some gang-members who attempted to rob or car-jack me.
I hate to sound so "vicious"... but the "bad guys" don't give a crap about YOU or your family... or how much your wife and children need you ALIVE and WELL. And so... I'm not one who will waste much time deciding whether or not to SHOOT !!! If I am attacked, I won't hesitate to shoot-to-kill... and a high-capacity semi-auto with extra, full magazines is a good "life insurance policy" if one is "caught" by some bad guys in unfavorable conditions.
Certainly, the "bad guys" won't give you a "chance", so why give them one?!?
Serious "self-defense" is not for bleeding-heart liberals... but it works well for reasonable men who would rather NOT hurt anyone unless provoked to defend their lives from "dirt-bags" who would take their life in a "New York second" to rob them of money for drugs !!!
When my wife and I leave our home, especially in the Lincoln Town Car, the P-89 goes along. The big Ruger is like a "life insurance policy"... you hope you will never have "need" of it, but you are smart enough to "
BE PREPARED ", as the old Boy Scout Motto sez.
