sling post question?

I have an early 45/70 handi-rifle  91 date  It has a Schnable fore arm the sling post is on a barrel band
like they use on the mag tube of a lever gun  it came that way new.  Any one else have one set up like this?  the band is 4"  from the muzzle  so this makes the gun carry lower on the sling it makes it easier to carry though brush

Hi plumberroy, I have those sling adapters on a few guns but none on a Handi yet. I personally like them and the fact that there is no stud on the forearm to bite into your hand on heavy recoiling rifles appeals to me as well as the look, classic and smooth. I do want to get a couple at least in the correct diameter tor mount on my guns. The ones I have are easy to put on and once on stay put very well. This has been discussed here before and there was a site posted that sold them, I think it might have been midway and perhaps Uncle Mikes may have been the manufacturer....<><....:)

mine came from the factory  like that  I bought it new in early  92 it is the only one I've have seen come like that

sounds like you a nice and unusual gun there plumberroy, any pictures available? I would like to see just how the factory set up that barrel band stud....<><....:)

Plumber/MSP,

I have a Dave Talley band swivel sitting here waiting for mounting on a friend's 45-70 Handi (Brownells has several - Talley's is cheapest - $25/$30?).  They are great for all the reasons you've already mentioned...not to forget that they don't put any pressure on your forearm.  And I like connecting to steel - I like to think I could pound tent pegs with my Handi without affecting it (heck, I've seen lots of guns that that's what it looks like someone used them for! :o (SHAME on you guys!!!)).  Use a polished ballpene hammer to cold stretch it to size and contour - DON'T ream it!  Solder it on - Force 44 low heat - tin the band and barrel first.
