Remington Genesis
« on: January 28, 2008, 05:56:00 AM »
Still shopping for my new muzzle loader for elk hunting. Does anybody have any experience with the Remington Genesis? How weather proof is it? How accurate, reliable, etc.?
So far the TC Omega has my eye. But Cabela's has a pretty good deal going on the Remington right now.

I hear they are Ok. They are imported from Spain and made by Traditions. Its probably just as weatherproof as any ML that uses 209's and I wouldn't worry about the rain. I would worry more about how hard it is to clean out the action. I would look around and try to find reviews on them if I could.

It is Remington in name only...Remington won't commit to making their own muzzleloader so it is simply a renamed Traditions.  Save up and go for the Omega, you won't be sorry or regret a few extra bucks for the extra quality you get.

The "Remington" MAY be accurate (I had a Traditions that was) but they are of much poorer quality.  Go to a store and look down the barrel of the Remmy, I bet you'll be able to see nice tooling marks like I have in most Traditions I've inspected.

You can get an Omega cheaper and you might be able to find deals right before deer season and right after.

I bought one last year. It is accurate as any 50 caliber ML. The finish is that of a poorer quality. Looks like a cast iron frying pan. Mine has the synthetic stock which i can live with. Some day I am going to have it re blued. One nice factor is that it is easy to clean. A lot easier than my T/C black diamond.

Buffermop you sure said the truth when you mentioned how hard your TC Black Diamond is to clean. It's such a pain in the *** that I just don't shoot mine very much because it's like tearing down an engine to clean it up. That's another reason I'm shopping for a new rifle. At this point the TC Omega with the new "Weather Shield" finish is the most likely.

I would go with stainless. I would wait on the weather shield.
