Stevens 200, .223

just getting into predator hunting, and need a rifle specificly for the task, i have been looking at the stevens 200 model rifle in .223 and like the price and have heard the accuracy is good, anyone had good or bad experinces with this rifle, i know the stock is kinda rough but willing to overlook that.

If I`m not mistaken they are on the Savage action which means that you can change barrels yourself if you want. If there is any roughness in the gun they will be easy to fix.

I have a Stevens 200 in .223 and it is pretty accurate. I'm getting .6 to .8 inch groups at 100 yds. and 1.7 to 1.8 inch groups at 200 yards on a still day. This is with 40 gr. Sierra HP's and 26.5 grs. of Varget. The stock can be  cleaned up with just a little work and the trigger can be adjusted to 3# with a screwdriver. I f you want to make a new trigger spring from music wire you can get a 2 1/2# pull.

I have a 200 in 223. I'm shooting 52gr hpbt with 26 gr. varget and shooting .5 at 100 and 1" at 200. Stock is ugly but it shoots good and I don't care if it gets scratched.

I've heard good things about the 200 and have handled but not shot them. With that said, I know you can upgrade the trigger to a RifleBasix trigger for about a hundred bucks. After all of it's said and done though, you're spending over $400 for it. I almost bought one until I saw the CZ 527. It's just a little more, has a single set trigger, which is really sweet, and the wood used for the stock is absolutely gorgeous.

My Main Go To predator gun is a Stevens in .223  ;D My long range / Windy gun is a Stevens in .243  ;D Soon my Go To Deer gun will be a Stevens in .308.

I am Amazed at the Quality, reliability, and most of all the outstanding Out of the Box accuracy !

Can buy one New for $289.00 Later add a Timney Trigger for $70, and a B&C Duramaxx Stock if wanted for $90 (I modify the factory stocks for Predator rigs)

Even if they costed as much or more then the Tikka's, CZ's Etc.. I'd still buy Savage / Stevens for un paralleled Accuracy, and MADE in the USA !

I cut about 4" off the barrel end of the stock, they are to flexible and when using shooting sticks you could twist the stock making it touch the barrel. I cut it off just in front of the checkering, then rounded it.. MUCH stiffer and you can't make it touch the barrel. Then I bedded the action in the stock. Overall I'm Very happy with the gun, but am going to cut 4" off the barrel to make is handle even better in the thick woods. I don't have a recent pic, but between the Rifle and the Dednutz scope mount... I don't think I have seen a better suited calling rig. ~Ace~
