USH synthetic fore end
« on: January 21, 2008, 07:07:08 AM »
I was wondering if the fore end off the New England Firearms Sidekick Rifles  black poweder guns would fit a USH with the heavy barrel? I would really like to make this thing all synthetic with the same stock dimensions....

Diameter is a problem, but a sidekick stock is your bigger problem.  The sidekick frame is about an inch shorter than a SB1 or 2 frame, therefore the forend is one inch longer from the hinge to the forend screw.  The inside of the sidekick synthetic stock is hollow and built up only around the screw base, so you can't really drill another hole to fit a normal barrel.

I will get some pictures on here after work to show the differences in sidekicks and rifles, maybe Tim can post them in the FAQ.

Geez,

I wish choate would make one for these guns. Anyone know of anyone who will custom make one, maybe at a custom shop?

The Choate Varmint forend has plenty of room to enlarge the barrel channel, everything else is the same, the outside width of the spacer on the USH is the same as a Handi, it's just thinner at the barrel.

The ease of the project isn't worth the labor cost for a custom shop.  The synthetic stocks are all hollow nylon based plastic.  Take a piece of 1" pipe or whatever has the appropriate matching diameter of the barrel and hold a sheet of sandpaper around it and go to it.  10 minutes later you will have a synthetic stock for your USH.
