45/70 1985 26" Brl. Rear Iron Ladder flip-up Sights Question??
« on: January 20, 2008, 04:09:56 PM »
I have a Marlin 1895 26 " Octagon barrel. It's awesome!!  I am wanting to put a Ladder flip-up type rear sight on it. Don't like the tang sight  And maybe a filp-up,.. with a peep sight of some kind on it. I have looked around at the Harrington Smith and the Smith Marlin Sights. Can anyone help me out as to what they know about this type of sight,.. and have field tested.

My issue is my eyes,  I see the front sight fine,..but the rear sight is blurry.  Any one else out there had la sick(sp) surgery on their eyes. Your close vision is not as good,.. but you can see a nat on a flys rear at 100 yards.

I would appreciate any experienced help with the flip up sight application.

Thanks,

JMO, but since one of the barrel sights is always blurry, when I'm looking at the other sight, I cut my (vision) losses and went with a rear sight that never gets blurry - since a shooter never has to look at it.

I simply look through the peep hole (aperture) of my tang sight, just like I do with a receiver sight, and place the front sight on whatever I want to hit.

Fast, easy, and no-fuss/no-muss or fiddling.

YMMV.

Getting a ladder sight into the 3/8" rear sight dovetail should help compared to a tang sight.
