Elk no?, Bear yes!
« on: June 19, 2003, 02:16:39 PM »
I was wondering where a person here in the mid-west could go Bear hunting this fall,if, I don't get drawn for Elk hunting in Oregan this fall?  I can go just about anywhere, but would like to stay with-in 1000 to 1250 miles from Indianapolis, due to driving by myself.Would like some good leads on guides and/or outfitters that you have hunted with.Any help would be nice, Thanks

talon, some good information, but I would have had to apply over a month ago for the drawing. I guess I could contact an outfitter .

Let's hope that you get your Elk tag. The first option is always the best. I understand a very unusual situation may exist in MN this year. I may be wrong, but the word I get is that there are a lot of tags not applied for. Under the current rules, those who applied for one area and weren't selected, can apply and pay for a tagin another area in the same instant on or after 4 August. This procedure has been very effective in the past, I think, because there were LOTS of hunters. This year just about everyone who applied got a tag and there's still many left over  for the 4 August application, but not the hunters that usually get every last one. I'm checking this situation out. 4 August is still a way away, but we all know how slow most government agencies are to conform to unique and timely events. But, the MN DNR does answer questions in a timely manner even if it's not the answer we want to hear. Will keep the board advised. 8)

Suds 1957, see the update on the thread concerning the 2003 Minnesota Bear hunt. A change to the law governing licence issue is in the works.
