26 heavy Barrel accuracy .223
« on: January 27, 2008, 04:12:20 PM »
Took my Encore .223 out today...wondering what kind of accuracy people are getting...With American Eagle 50gr flat base hollow points I got strong 1.5 " groups @200 yds. With 50gr vmax Black Hills I got 1.75 groups..200yds also.In both cases 2 of the hole's were within 1/2 of each other...maybe warm barrel v/s cold barrel. Not set up to reload yet...I know thats pretty fair hunting accuracy.and thats what I am going to do with it. Might in the next summer try to work up a load to make it a tack driver....It does have the stock trigger setup..Not the best I have shot...But not the worst either.....With my 209X50 barrel....2  50gr 777 pellets I shoot sub inch groups pretty regular.....What should I actually expect?

You should expect 0.5 to 0.75 MOA.  With good handloads, less than 0.5 MOA isn't at all out of the question.

Did you guys notice he is shooting at 200 yards?  I would say with stock everything and factory bullets his groups aren't bad at 200 yards.

Mine really liked the 45gr stuff, never found 50's and hated all 55gr factory ammo.  I loaded some 55gr Sierra Gamekings over 24.5grs of H4895 with a CCI 400 Primer and set them .010 off the lands and my groups are great, much better than factory stuff.  I got the load from the Sierra manual, it maxed out at 26.1, but mine is more accurate at 24.5grs, 25grs was good but 24.5 was great.  Velocity is 3100fps.
