? on Shooting industry stats
« on: January 27, 2008, 10:37:35 AM »
Where can you find out what rifle or ammunition sales were the previous year ie 2007.     I can normally find almost anything I want to know on the web but these stats are no where not even for 2006.  Is it some kind of secret passed around to gun writers and industry buffs??  It seems that Gun writers could sway alot of people toward or away from a certain caliber or firearms by saying the sales are bad or good when they are not. Jim Carmichel wrote an article on "Place your bets" which new calibers will become a classic.  He said the 7mm wsm seems to be DOA but I know more hunters with the 7mm wsm than the 270wsm or the 300wsm.  I know gun store owners probably use this industry information when deciding which Rifles and Calibers are popular at the time.  Maybe someone on Greybeards will know the answer.

This article at NSSF leads me to believe they have the info you're looking for.

I checked into that organization and the minimum you can pay to get  info is a $450.00 membership fee if you are in the industry.  That is what got me thinking the industry doesn't want regular people to have this type information.  But why?   I can find sales figures for  any  car or truck broke down by the month but can't find even a yearly total on ammunition sales by caliber or rifle sales by caliber or type for any gun/ammo maker.  Just seems too secretive to me.
