Preduze 44 8mm
« on: February 09, 2008, 06:06:19 AM »
I have a sporterized 8mm Mauser with Preduze 44 stamped on the barrel. I bought this gun several years ago, when I was 14, gun shopping with my Dad. It came with an after market stock and Williams peep sight, otherwise original. My Dad recommended it after some careful inspection. He was a WW2 vet and still loved these rifles even though they were used against him. I am looking for some history regarding this rifle. I used it deer hunting for 20 years straight and shot piles of whitetail with it. Still have it, still shoot it.

Post some pics if you can.  It could be a Yugo m48 or m48A or else a Yugo k98.
I've got a sporter M48A that really shoots nice.

The Pred 44 indicates where it was made.  It translates to "Enterprise 44" or "Factory 44"  The Yugo's stopped using that stamp sometime around 1952 or 1953.  The factory is no longer there though.  The US bombed it flat during the Bosnia campaign.  Parts of the plant were used to make Yugo cars if I recall correctly (that alone made it worthy of bombing)

The k98 replicates the German model while the M48's have a slightly different chamber length and the original stocks were a little beefier.  The k98 typically has a round knob on the bolt handle (stock is then cut out to fit)  The m48's have a bolt handle knob that is flat on the underneath.

Another 8mm fan.  I think they're perfect for WI deer   :)

My Preduzi 44 is a liberated German K98 that was scrubbed and re-stamped by Yugoslavia. They missed a couple of the acceptance stamps (wa477 under the eagle).
