Who Carries H&R

The only retail store that carries HR in my area, Houston, is Academy and Gander Mountain.  They only seem to carry .223, .243, etc.  I suppose these are the fast movers.
Is there a retail store that has a better selection.  I'd really like to find one in a .22 mag,.357, or a 30-30

See H&R's website, they have a dealer locator, finding a .357 will be tough, it hasn't been offered as a complete rifle for years, only available as an accessory barrel, but the complete rifle is being reintroduced this year, so it shouldn't be too long before there are more available.

bass pro shops carries them here in VA so if you have one in your area you could try there.

Probably any of the retailers mentioned would be willing to order any currently available H&R/NEF from their distributor for you.

I work at one of those "Box" stores (the one with the 7mm 08 and 243 youths), but the better selection in the Houston area is Fountain Firearms.

Sportsman's Warehouse carries them too, but they aren't everywhere.

Tim:    Just curious as to why they once manufactored the .357 and then discontinued it with the acception of the accessory barrels.

Was there some issues such as with some of the other now discontinued calibers?

Again, I'm just curious and if this has been covered before, I apologize!

With it's recent popularity, it  just seemed like a no-brainer to me!

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

That's a darned good question and not the first time H&R's thinking has been questioned, their stated reason was the 357mag wasn't a good seller, so it was reduced to being only available as an accessory barrel, same as the 450 Marlin. :-\ Maybe some bean counter just screwed up cuz it's always been real popular here. Now they've discontinued several more like the 17M2 and 22mag Ultra as well as several others that don't sell well by their standards. :'(

just to mention one that is often over looked by companies and customers. in NEW YORK STATE is


herb phillipson's army and navy surplus stores....   i got my handi rifle 30-30 with a 3x9x40 barska scope set up all new  for $301

only place that had a 3030.  gander mountain only had .243 with a scope used for 299.99  they could have ordered me one but would have had to wait for company, out of stock..

just wanted to add another place to check if your in NY. later....
