Need suggestions for optics for my wife's Kimber

Well I have been shooting with my wife for a few years now and she can outscore me more than once in a while.

She has been shooting a Ruger Mark II tuned up with new parts and a Tactical Solutions barrel with a 30mm UltraDot. She has shot as well as 598 of 600 in our regular PPC matches. It is time for her to move up to a centerfire with the rest of us.

To this end I have been unable to find a revolver that she can "reach" the trigger properly with. (I really wanted to fix her up with a 16-3) She really likes the 1911 and the recoil is ok if I keep the loads down.

We (spelled: she) have decided to sacrifice my Kimber Super Match to this worthy cause. I have ordered a Weigand scope base, the kind that is tapped onto the dustcover. A 10# recoil spring and buffer will also be installed. The problem I have is the optics. She wants a 42MM red dot tube! The large field of view is what she is after. Any suggestions? I don't want to put a $30 red dot on a $1,700.00 gun (but I will if she shoots it).

I dont think a cheap redot is going to hold up on a slide mount. You may get away with it with a frame mount but id think of stepping up to an aim point  or some other quality reddot for your application.

The Weigand scope base is a frame mount.  It fastens to the frame at the dust cover with 10 machine screws.

How about a holographic optic like a Trijicon or maybe and EO Tech.  I'm sure there are others, but this way she is not limited by field of view with a traditional tube red dot.  They will be lighter, but the  biggest advantage will be the FOV especially if you can get her to shoot with both eyes open.  I'm sure some of the optics sponsors here at GBO will have something that will fit your needs.

The way I see it you have two options.
Accidentally forget to bring or load lite loads for your next shooting event.
The second is I agree with Heavy C and an Eo tech or other  low profile wide view red dot is the way to go.
A lady that shoots with us has one on her 38 Super and holly cow is she good.
Does this also mean you can replace your 45?

I am pretty deep in 45's, I will find something to shoot. 

I tried my wife on my S&W PC 1911 in 38 super but she likes the 45 better.

eotech... trijicon... reflex optics that have no parralax and great feild of view... I would research the different sized dots for her uses... also some have a bracket and dot or cross that is great for fast work...
let us know what you do.  do you feel the need for body armour ? lol
598/600 better get a helmet too.. or behave very well .. all the time....

I'd get a "Docter" type red dot sight. Field of view is not a real concern because with dot  sights you're suposed to keep both eyes open. Burris has the type of sight I'm thinking of and it's called the Fast Fire. They are small, light, and mount to your pistol in a way that won't devalue it.

I could not agree with you more.   In fact "my" Kimber has a Doctor sight already, but Cindy does not like it and does not shoot well with it.

if its a frame mount id say go for it. Id buy myself a cheap redot and see if your wife likes it. that way your not out much. If she doesnt you can allways put it on a 22 rifle or another gun and if she does you can agian use the cheap one for something else and buy a quality unit for your 1911. Im sure a cheap redot will hold up at least well enough to get the feel for one. I had a cheap bushnell on a 35 marlin for quite a few years and its still going strong on a 22 pistol.
