Which gun- Glock 23 or Sig 226
« on: February 08, 2009, 09:38:04 AM »
Wanting to get another pistol in 40 caliber. What would you chose a glock 23 or sig-226? What is everybodys oppion if you have to chose between the two? I know both are excellent pistols but I would like to know the pros and cons of both. Which one would you chose if your life was on the line?

A few months ago i Was trying to figure out a good reliable pistol to shoot. And i wanted to get the most durable in any condition pistol. I figured since the army and marines used the beretta, that it would be the best. but im hearing more and more that the sigs more durable and glocks are more durable because of all the test they put them through. And i hear alot that beretta cant stand up to extreme test such as glocks and sigs. Well then i Wonder why the army and marines have them as there standard side arm. I want a pistol that I know that can withstand ANYTHING and keep on going.

I am a big fan of the combat tupperware.  You can clean it in the dishwasher.

My son got me interested in Glocks when he was in police recruit school.  He has a model 22, and I have a model 19.  They get shot a lot and never fail.  I have little Sig experience, so I can't help much with that.

I'll take the Glock 23 over ANY AND ALL, 40 cals. ESPECIALLY if it has night sights. Heck! Even if it doesn't.

The Sig and the Glock are both fine pistols. I have owned 226s and Glocks. All that remains of the Sigs is a lone 220. I have 3 Glocks and would buy another today if the price were right. The Glock is the AK of pistols.

I heard the glocks had a hard trigger pull and they wasnt all that accurate. How much of that is true?

How accurate do you need it?  It is not a target pistol, but for personal defense ranges it does fine.  And it is reliable as the day is long.

I wasn't looking to buy a Glock but after shooting a G27 who accurate it was is why I now own a Glock! I have put about 200 rounds through it in last week and half. Buying cheapest shells available accurate and no miss feeds thing is flawless!

I think Sig handguns are one of the best.  I did buy a Glock though, as for me price was an issue.  the difference in price bought extra mags and some ammo.

I also think if you asked the same question on the Sig forum you would get a whole different set of answers.

I'm a sig fan. (I have P230, P229, P2340, P226, and a P220 Sport)  Only because they fit my paws.
The Glocks are great guns but do not fit me and I just can not shoot them well at steel or IDPA shoots.
Here is how I can tell if a gun fits me.  And it works for most people.
Go to the store pick up the gun in your two handed grip. Finger off the trigger.
Pick a spot out on the wall.
CLOSE YOUR EYES.  Yes Close your eyes.
Raise the gun to where the spot on the wall is and settle the gun there, mentally picturing the sights.
Now Open your eyes.
Are you looking down the sights?  Are you close to the spot on the wall?
With the Sigs P226 I look down the sights.
With the Glock I see the top of the slide and I have to roll my hands down to get the sights on target.  The striker guns always have me pulling to the right, even dry firing.
The up side to the glock is the trigger is the same every time.  The Sig has a lighter second shot and the hammer can be cocked for a longer range shot.
But either would be a good choice.
