Barrel?
« on: January 28, 2008, 01:57:32 PM »
Where can I find a barrel to convert a 70's 1985 45-70 to an octagon barrel? Basically,I just want an octagon barrel the same length not a cowboy version.

The cheapest route might be getting an 1895CB barrel, cut and crown to length and cut a new dovetail for the front sight and tube magazine.  I don't know if Marlin will replace the barrel on a 70s vintage 1895 with an 1895CB barrel.  You can always ask.  Should be under $200 if they do, and then you would have the cost of having a gunsmith cut and crown to length and cut the front sight and tube magazine dovetail.
We learn something new everyday whether we want to or not.

If you're not going to do a lot of the work yourself and need to have it done, check with one of our sponsors, MGM Barrels.  They might be able to make the barrel you want, as well as install it.

Failing that I would see if any of our other sponsors can produce the barrel and services you may need and if there is no connection there then I would go to the Montana Rifleman which I know rebarrels lever actions.  HTH.  Mikey.
