Boresighting a Marlin .22 auto...
« on: February 07, 2008, 10:54:45 AM »

I am mounting a scope on my Marlin 795....

Does anyone have a simple, effective way of bore sighting an auto like this ?

I have a Leupold magnetic bore sighter that gets me on paper with any gun that has a properly crowned barrel.  I do quite a bit of scope work, so it pays for its self in a short time.  You might see if you have a friend that has one.  They work great!

I take mine to the local gun shop, they do it for free.

Unless you swap scopes quite often, or buy a lot of new rifles that need set up, don't bother buying a bore-sighter.

Most combinations bases/rings/scopes will get you on the paper at 25yds. If not, you might have a problem.

Fire a shot (or three) and adjust accordingly. You should be able to have it dialed in with very few shots. 22lr is CHEAP...you'd have to sight in 50+ 22lr's using a bore sighter before you would save money over "wasting" ammo.

I bought one of those cheap little, plastic bore sight tools from Tasco a couple years ago...useless..

I guess I'll get it the old fashioned way..a little bit at a time....Thanks guys
