Vanguard Stock Replacement
« on: November 11, 2007, 07:40:26 AM »
I put a laminated stock on a Vanguard 300 Wby Mag. Had the action glass bedded and floated the barrel. I am getting about 1 1/2 groups. They were a little better with the plastic stock but not a whole lot. As a whole do Vanguards need pressure on the barrel? What about these Limbsaver Things that go on the barrel to reduce vibrations, anybody ever use one? Do they work?

For sure the problem, getting almost one hole groups at 100yds and about 1 inch at 200. Someone posted earlier about grouping like a shotgun with a hot barrel on a 300 Wby mag- the hotter this one got seams like it shot as good if not better. It don't take long to heat up either

I put a Bell & Carlson Medalist on my 300WBY  and skim bedded the action and free floated the barrel . I shoot a little less than an inch with Rem. 180 gr loads and the groups open up a little with Wby 180's .Maybe it's not the gun and you may just need to find a load ? I haven't tried reloads yet but will have them soon .Good Luck!

I put a black O-ring under the barrel at the lug screw. It free floated the barrel and tightened my group significantly. It's also cheap. :)
