How much do the 22 FA's run new and used ? basically...
« on: January 27, 2008, 06:47:20 AM »
hey : I was thinking of an 'fa 22 mag and do not see any for sale used at all .. cannot recall one used for sale except maybe one... what kiind of general prices do they command new or used ?
another question.. I understand there is about a thousandth difference between the 22 mag and the LRifle round... and that some ruger owners feel this is the problem with single six accuracy which is sometimes dismal compared to the auto and other guns available today.. FA included...
but : if the difference in accuracy is the attempt to use both 22 mag and LR in the ruger .. how does the FA shoot with both ? never heard a negative comment about it but never heard anyone specifically mention that they shot 22 mag and LR in the same gun, either .. do hear about squirrel shooting which is impressve and something that I do with my ruger auto and my contender that I had bored to 22 mag when it was not to be found around here... but I do not attempt to shoot LR in it either.

please help me to understand if all 22 mag /Lr conversions are either accurate with mag or Lr but not both... no reason for me to get one if that is the case... will just choose either one and go with that... I now have a 22 LR and a 22 Mag barrel for my contender and love them both.. and if it is not accurate then I do not want it .. so is there a sixgun out there for me or not....

There's an unfired Mod 83 .22/.22mag going for pretty cheap on Gunbroker but it could go a lot higher in the next day and a half.

I believe the stories you've heard of the inaccuracy of the Ruger guns is what is inaccurate not the guns.

My best friend and shooting partner Billy Doss (deceased) had one with 9.5" barrel that he fired extensively with both .22LR and .22 Magnum. One summer alone we filled a five gallon bucket with brass from that gun and my S&W 17 and we fired like that for several years but only collected the brass one summer.

He had no trouble hitting an NRA rifle chicken silhouette target at 25 meters with his using either cylinder and most times hit it six for six and hardly ever dropped below five of six with it. That's basically a one inch diameter with some odd extras that makes it a chicken. I also seen him hit a crow with it using iron sights at close to 200 yards on the first try using the magnum cylinder. I shot that gunn and watched him shoot it a lot. There was no accuracy problem with it. His step son Blake also had one exactly like it and I could tell no difference in the accuracy of the guns only of the shooters using them.

I now have one like it myself and have it at Mag-na-port for customization before I get serious shooting it. They will make the trigger as good as a trigger on a Ruger can be and check all alignments and adjust anything needed before returning it to me with some extra custom features. How accurate will it be? Dunno it seemed to be quite accurate when I got it but that lousy trigger typical of Rugers was opening my groups pretty badly at times. I have no doubt it will shoot better than my eyes can see to hold it.

I really think the biggest problems folks have with them are the lousy triggers and their own poor shooting.

Will an FA outshoot them? Yup no doubt but in honesty I wonder if you or most others are really good enough shots to know the difference? I'm betting most are not.

Glad to know the rugers are more accurate than given credit for... that helps a lot... I am not that good a shot anymore... but hope to get back to somewhat how well I shot rimfires in the past... by shooting lots and lots... also.

gunbroker.. they do not allow free web sites.. so I am checking on whether I can use my cox broadband for an address and thus get on gunbroker.. I fear that if I do I will spend even more money for me it will be called : gone broker ...lol
thanks

Understand that I'm not trying to talk you into or out of either brand. I'm just trying to clarify what I think is bad info you've been fed if folks are telling you the Ruger Single Six can't beat 3" at 25 yards by a bunch.

I am used to the accuracy of the ruger mark II semi auto 1"x6" bull barrelled 22 .. I started with a mark one in '72 and shot it twenty plus years then got the mark two when I gave the first one away...
I shoot squirrels and birds with it.. birds on the ground are not safe at fifty yards and more sometimes, and squirrels that run just get shot up a bit fore they are grounded...
if it will do that for me or close, I will love it.. I priced the FAs they are beyond what I am willing to spend on a 22 since the mark II is great for me just not single action..
