My favorite time of year for shooting off the beer-can mortar in town.

I put a mild load of FFg or FFFg under a can with no lid that's filled with water.

The round goes up about 75 feet and dumps the water, the can falling to earth lazily and safely.

AND THE NOISE - the report bounces back from the mountain on the other side of town and then echoes up and down the valleys!  I figure I can get away with ONE shot since there are so many other fireworks going off.

I live in a sub-division so there won't be any "boomers" for me. However, I'll be helping out with the local fire dept. with the Canada Day fireworks that my town will be holding. That should be enough "bang" for the night.

Whal enjoy it CW! I jist finished the bore sleeve 'n' don't wanna drill the fuse hole 'til the sleeve is pushed into the bronze barrel, so thar won't be no cannon fire here today  :(

I can't figger no way ta proof test me barrel without a fuse hole or we'd be salutin the 1st and the 4th!

You don't want to drill the fuse hole until until you have the liner in.  And don't forget you need a fuse hole liner also in a sleeved tube.

Well, I attended my first fireworks show last night in a volunteer last night. What a blast (pun intended)! Having 5" & 6" shells going off in mortar tubes a few feet from your face is not for the meek or mild. I was naturally cautious but not overly so.

The head supervisor climed I was "too slow" so I had to pick up the pace by igniting the quickmatch closer to the paper covering. In some cases the shell launched within 1/4 second after fuse ignition.

Can't wait to do it again. There'll be several more shows this Summer and I hope to get my supervisors level 1 certification by the Fall.

One of the guys I worked with last night volunteered on a show that a neighbouring town hosted last week. That town bought $22,000 worth of fireworks and wanted the show to last only 10 minutes. He said he'd never seen anything like it before in his life. The night turned into day for a full 12 minutes. Awesome.

What a great hobby, huh? Where else could a guy/gal go and have so much fun and light up thousands of dollars worth of pyro at someone else's expense?
