My new toy..... Sendero II in 264 Win Mag!!!!!
« on: February 04, 2008, 02:35:25 PM »
While at was at Scheel's this weekend, the Gun Counter guy had just gotten off the phone with a customer who declined his special order.Hearing this as I walked by, I asked the salesman what gun it was and he pointed to a NIB Sendero. I asked if I could see it and couldnt believe my eyes when I read the barrel stamp. So I asked what the price would be since it was a return, he told me a fair price and I walked out the door with it a few minutes later.

So the my question to you is: what is the difference between the Sendero and the Sendero II? I had an older one 300 WBY but didnt know there was a new version out. Also, how many of you have experience with the 264 WM and what loads would you recommend for it? I am looking at the 130gr Barnes TSX, 130gr Nosler Accubond and the 140gr Berger VLD's.

I will be mounting a Burris 4.5-14 on top and will be using it on a few farms this fall where shots COULD be 400+ yards ( I dont want to shoot that far but I may be faced with it).

Thanks for all your input-Tim

The SenderoII is the new version. Rem. quit making the Sendero for a while, which brought about my Username.  ;D

The SenderoII stock is a little different in color/texture & it has a palm swell that the original stock did not have. Also, the fluted barrel on the old stainless version did not have black flutes like the new one. Also, some of the old Sendero's were blue & unfluted instead of stainless only as the new ones & some old ones were blue & fluted. So, the old one came in 3 versions.

The newer SenderoII versions have the new trigger, some of the SenderoII that were initially introduced had the old trigger.

Most of the time the Sendero is a cut above in the accuracy dept. & shoot great. I have heard that Rem. used select barrels for these, but I have no proof of that, but they sure shoot well.

Looks like you picked 3 very good bullets to try. My Wife used the 130Acc. in a 6.5X55 & it did very well on Antelope last fall.
You will not make peace with the Bluecoats, you are free to go.

nomo said it all, not much else to add!

Congrats on the rifle! Post pics and get us a range report promptly mister!  :D The SF II's are in my opinion the sexiest looking rifle on this planet we call Earth. They shoot just as good as they look! That helps right?

I'm on a natural high from shooting earlier, don't mind me!  :o

I didnt even notice that the flutes were black on this one. I did notice that the stock was a little different, I like the palm swell.

Range report wont come for awhile. I have too many things going on, besides the fact it has no scope or mounts yet. I will dress it up and play with it this summer when things have slowed down a bit.

Thanks for the info-Tim

Yes indeedy but the SF II is in a class by itself. Next purchase is another Sig 226 but after that, it's SF II time in .300RUM! And after that it's a 7600 for black bear in PA this fall! And possibly a VTR after that! I hate remington!!!

Yes that VTR is nice. They had one at Scheel's but in 223. I handled it for quite awhile, little nose heavy but had that "cool factor" going for it. Dont care much for the stock, but I'm sure that could be taken care of.

Dont forget about your stocks either  ;)

Oh the stocks, don't get me goin  :D

Yeah I think the VTR stock is the same as this SPS one and that turns me off a little. It does the job but it just feels wrong in my hands. I took it apart last week, The stock weighs like .5 lb if that, I kid you not. The SPS-V is nose heavy too, well it's better now with the scope/mounts on it. Still waiting another week for the HS precision Police stock in OD green, I'm so impatient!
