There are so many types of diaphragm calls - single, double, triple - what type to buy? Any certain make you would recommend? Which type are easier to use and master? Wanting to use with my slate and box calls while calling. Lawdog

I'd just start out with a single. I've bought Hunter's Specialties models.

I think that a double or triple is no harder to use, they just give different sounds. Raspier, richer, etc.

I like to carry a couple in case it rains. I seem to get better results with my hand calls though. The diapraghm calls seem a little too loud to me although you can of course muffle them with your hands.

Hi when i first started useing a mouth call i started out with a 2 reed call i carry it in my mouth every where i went to work driving down the road i like a 2 reed call i like a 3 reed call it is made local and they have went out of buss. i had 5 or 6 new one's on hand BUT i carry 2 CODY calls one slate and one glass i think Jack got him one i HAVENT fount a slate or glass that sounds any better VM

I like the double read calls singles are good to start out with but its hard to get a raspy sound out of them. triple read calls I haven't mastered yet. For me it takes to much air and I can't call the triples quietly. I bought a tape that instructs me on how to use diaphram calls and carry it in my truck. Whenever I'm driving around I pop in a call turn on the tape and practice. You will get some funny looks though from other people on the road but its a good way to learn. I by all types of brands I haven't found one thats totally grabbed me. HS makes a pretty good call.

IVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO MASTER THE DIAPHRAGM CALL EITHER TILL I BOUGHT A H.S. STRUT TONE TROUGH RASPY OLD HEN, IT TAKES LESS AIR TO MAKE SOUNDS , MY FAVORITE IS A WING BONE , GOBBLERS LOVE THEM , BUT THEY ARE HARD TO MASTER

Lawdog,I use only slate and box calls.For some reason I have a hard time with the diafram calls while dipping Copenhagen :lol: Rick
