.204 Maximum Case Length
« on: February 04, 2008, 04:47:24 PM »
OK Experts, my new Winchester brass is starting out at 1.840, I am only neck sizing the first load, and the case is stretching to 1.857 on average in my Encore Pro Hunter barrel.

When I cycle around and start to load this brass for the second time, so I need to trim this brass?   What would be the maximum length I would want to allow, before I start trimming?

Thanks!

Could be that case stretch comes from dragging the expander ball back thru the neck at sizing with out using enough lube. Possibly has less to do with firing. Max case length is supposed to be 1.850" but chambers often allow for longer lengths. With out knowing for sure I would trim them back to 1.840 just like most loading books will say to do.

Correct, MAX = 1.850", TRIM TO = 1.840"!

I think skb2706 is correct, about the expander ball pulling back through the neck!
Most of this can be eliminated by running a brush in and out of the neck to ensure it's clean.
